St. Martin family papers, 1732-1950.

This collection primarily consists of papers of the French Canadian St. Martin family of Louisiana, spanning three centuries. Allied families, including Perret and D'Arensbourg, are also represented in this collection. Included are correspondence, journals, legal documents, business and financial records, genealogical information, photographs, printed items and newspaper clippings. A large portion of the papers relate to the political career of Louis St. Martin (1820-1893).

Members of the St. Martin family are descendants of Pierre Bauchet St. Martin, who immigrated to Louisiana from Canada in the eighteenth century. The St. Martin family, as well as the Perret and D'Arensbourg families, are among the earliest European settlers in Louisiana.
